Owen grew up on his family farm in Tennessee along with two older brothers, as well as a younger sister. He was always eager to be able to help his father and grandfather with any of the animals on the farm, and was always very good with the animals. He even single-handedly raised an orphaned batch of kittens when he was fifteen after finding them abandoned in the family's barn. The farm was never all that successful, though, and when Owen was ten years old, his family took their last out of state vacation to the badlands of Montana (due to his brothers' interest in dinosaurs), where *Owen met Dr. Alan Grant.* The farm and his family struggled more than he'd ever seen for several years after that, and after his grandfather died, the farm was foreclosed, his family forced to move, and his parents divorced shortly after due to the stress. He never saw or heard from his father again. Owen was eighteen by then, though, and the second he was out of high school, he joined the Navy in an attempt to get away from the memories of what once was, as well as in an attempt to see what more the word had to offer, and where his place in it could be. He was eventually assigned to **train Sea Lions as patrol aids,** something he excelled at due to his natural understanding of animals and their unusual love for his presence.
Due to his success with the Navy's animals, Owen was hired by InGen in 2012 to raise, train, and research Jurassic World's Velociraptor pack that would eventually consist of five raptors, whom he named Blue, Charlie, Delta, Echo, and Foxtrot. By late 2013, a little over a year into the program, it was clear that the raptors' behavior was far more complex than originally thought, and Foxtrot's was especially violent due to how InGen had insisted she be raised and trained separately before being integrated into the pack the moment they were old enough to live in their paddock. Realizing he needed help from someone who understood animals the way he did, Owen proposed to InGen that they hire an old friend of his, Barry Sembène, to help him. They complied, but the raptors' behavior only grew more complicated, and a little more than a month after Barry's hiring, Foxtrot attacked and nearly killed one of the other workers at the paddock, forcing InGen to put her down, and leaving the two men with only four raptors to work with.
Two years later in 2015, and much to his dislike, Owen was assigned an intern, Alexia Myrada, to further help with training the raptors. Despite Alexia having a boyfriend, Owen flirted with her anyways, and slowly started to develop feelings for her when she showed her respect for, and genuine interest in, his raptors. Owen realized he had feelings for Alexia after he saw how terrified she was of thunder during a tropical storm on the island, and the next day, she came to his bungalow to help him move a fallen tree. They started arguing, and once Alexia revealed she and her boyfriend had broken up, Owen kissed her to let her know how he really felt about her. They began dating, and eventually married on November 18th of 2015.
A year and a half after the Jurassic World incident, in 2017, Owen and Alexia, who were still living on Isla Nublar with the raptors and the other dinosaurs, were forced to leave by government officials due to the fact that the island's formerly dormant volcano was active again, and threatening to destroy the island. They then returned to Tennessee, where they moved in with Owen's family, renovating the family's barn so that they could move in there.
