Two and a half years after the initial disaster on Isla Nublar, in October of 2017, the inactive volcano on the island was reclassified as active, and the island's only human residents, Owen and Alexia Grady, were forcibly removed from the island, and returned to the Grady farm in Tennessee. Ten months later, in August of 2018, after the couple finally agreed to put the raptors from their minds and attempt to move on, Owen received a call from Eli Mills, who was trying to recruit the couple for a rescue mission on Isla Nublar. Owen missed the call, however, and asked Alexia to check the voicemail while he was in the shower. Given their conversation only hours before, Alexia decided to delete the voicemail and not tell Owen about it, instead lying that it was her grandmother back in Michigan. He didn't believe her, but let the topic drop anyways.
The next day, Claire Dearing showed up at the couple's home, attempting to convince them that the voicemail Owen had received wasn't just lies, and that they needed Owen's help to save the raptors from the island, explaining that Mills worked for a Mr. Lockwood, who had an isolated island that he planned to move the dinosaurs to so that they were free to live out their lives in peace. Alexia was interested, but Owen remained skeptical, and declined Claire's pleas for them to help. Alexia, however, pulled Claire aside and reassured her that the couple would be on the plane to Isla Nublar the next night. Claire then left, and Alexia attempted to convince Owen to return to the island. He remained firm that it was a bad idea at first, but eventually decided to go against better judgement, knowing that if he chose to stay, his marriage with Alexia would begin to crumble.
Two days later, Owen and Alexia arrived on Isla Nublar with Claire and her associates, Zia and Franklin. There, they also met Ken Wheatley, a military man who they were told Lockwood hired to help move the dinosaurs. Given Owen's military history, he was instantly suspicious of the amount of guns on the island, but he said nothing, and they continued across the island to the secondary control room, encountering a rogue Brachiosaur along the way. Once the control room was reached, Franklin hacked into the system and gained access to the trackers installed in the dinosaurs. Wheatley was instantly asking about the raptors, and again, Owen was suspicious, but remained quiet as they raptors were located, and again, quiet as they headed out to find them. The closer they got to Blue in Wheatley's truck, however, the further away Blue ran, and eventually, Alexia requested that she and Owen track the Beta raptor on foot. They were let out of the truck, and began to follow the raptor, eventually tracking her into the old T-Rex paddock that had been built for the original park.
There, Owen attempted to regain the raptor's trust, but just before he was able, Wheatley appeared and shot her with a tranquilizer dart, irritating her, as well as both Owen and Alexia. The blonde attempted to get Wheatley to call his men off, but when Blue spotted another gun, she attacked, forcing the man she was mauling to shoot her, against Wheatley's orders. Realizing that they had been lied to, Owen attempted to tack Wheatley, but was shot with a tranquilzer dart, Alexia jumping to his side as well as pulling a gun on the men. It was then that Zia stepped in, however, stating that if they shot Alexia, she would let Blue die, forcing Wheatley to comply, and leave Alexia and Owen behind as the volcano began to erupt. He eventually regained consciousness, and the couple narrowly managed to escape the lava seeping from the volcano, heading for the Gyrosphere Valley in an attempt to get away from the volcano. On the way, they ran into Claire and Franklin, who had also been left behind, and the four of them took shelter behind an abandoned Gyrosphere, allowing a large herd of fleeing dinosaurs to pass without harm. After, Owen instructed the others to climb into the Gyrosphere so that they would be safe from any further attacks, and while Alexia was reluctant, she did so anyways, climbing in after Franklin. Before Owen could help Claire inside, however, they were cornered by a Carnotaur, forcing Owen and Claire behind the sphere as the dinosaur attacked another that had been behind the sphere. Their fight knocked the Gyrosphere, closing the door before Owen was able to stop it, and trapping Alexia and Franklin inside, while trapping Owen and Claire outside. It was then that the Carnotaur charged again, but it was stopped by the T-Rex, who knocked the Gyrosphere again, when she began to run from a secondary eruption. The sphere rolled towards the edge of the cliff with Owen and Claire close behind, before eventually plummeting over the edge with Alexia and Franklin still inside, and with no escape due to the Gyrpshere being inactive and without power.
